Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 July 2026
RheoByte is built so that there is nothing to leak. It reads your device's usage counters and computes everything locally. We do not operate servers for the app, we have no accounts, and we collect no personal data. This policy explains exactly what that means.
The short version
- RheoByte runs entirely on your device.
- It has no account, no login, and no backend servers.
- Your data usage information never leaves your phone.
- There is no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking.
- It reads the names and icons of your installed apps on your device only, to label your usage list — this is never uploaded or shared.
Information we collect
None. RheoByte does not collect, transmit, store off-device, or share any personal information. We have no way to identify you and no server that receives data from the app.
Information processed on your device
To do its job, RheoByte reads and processes the following locally on your phone. This information stays on the device and is never uploaded:
- Per-app network usage — how much mobile and Wi-Fi data each app has used, read from Android's system usage counters via the Usage Access permission.
- App names and icons — Android's usage counters identify apps only by an internal numeric ID, so RheoByte reads the names and icons of the apps installed on your device to label your usage list with real app names. This is read on your device only; the list of your installed apps is never stored off-device, uploaded, or shared.
- Your settings — your billing reset day, optional monthly data limit, theme, and language preference.
- Usage history — daily, weekly, and monthly totals that build up over time so you can see trends.
All of this is stored in a local database on your device. Removing the app deletes it.
Permissions we request
- Usage Access — required to read how much data each app has used. This is the core permission RheoByte needs to function, and it is used solely to display your usage inside the app.
- Query all packages (app visibility) — required so RheoByte can resolve each app's name and icon for your usage list. Android's data-usage counters report apps only by an internal numeric ID, and because any installed app may appear in your usage, this is the only way to label the list with real app names. It is used only on your device to build the list you see; the set of your installed apps is never stored off-device, uploaded, or shared.
- Notifications (optional) — requested only if you choose to set a monthly data limit, so RheoByte can warn you as you approach it. If you don't set a limit, this is never requested. Notifications are generated on-device.
How your information is used
The information above is used only to display your data usage, power the charts and history, and warn you about a limit you set. It is not used for any other purpose, and it is not sold, rented, or shared with anyone.
Third parties
RheoByte contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no social or tracking libraries. Because the app does not send data anywhere, no third party receives information about you through RheoByte.
Data retention & deletion
Your usage history and settings remain on your device for as long as the app is installed. You are always in control: clearing the app's storage or uninstalling RheoByte permanently removes all of its data from your device. There is nothing stored elsewhere for us to delete.
Children's privacy
RheoByte does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
